The recently released video shows noise that, according to Wendy Rush, wife of OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush—who tragically lost his life aboard the Titan sub in 2023—was linked to a breakdown in communication and pursuit. In the footage, after the sound is heard, Wendy appears puzzled, questioning what it was, seemingly unaware of the impending disaster.
A spokesperson from the Coast Guard indicated that the video was made public as part of an ongoing investigation by the Marine Investigation Committee.
Stockton Rush, alongside four others, perished during an expedition meant to explore the Titanic wreck, a site he had visited multiple times before.
“The deterioration noticed during Dive 80 marked the start of a tragic end,” commented Katie Williams, a commander with the Coast Guard. She added that those who dived with Titan after Dive 80 were potentially putting their lives in jeopardy.
Additionally, a friend of Rush has stated that he was well aware that the Titan’s journey could end disastrously.
Wendy Rush’s LinkedIn suggested she served as OceanGate’s communications director in 2023. It’s worth noting that she is also a descendant of two Titanic passengers who tragically perished in 1912.
