UFC Hall of Famer Donald Cerrone caused an uproar online after he posted a video in which he spoke about a Muslim fighter from Russia.
Cerrone, known as “Cowboy,” reportedly posted a video talking about how he enjoyed watching former UFC athlete Tim Kennedy defeat a fighter from the Russian republic of Dagestan, a region known for being particularly dominant in wrestling and having a ton of success in mixed martial arts and the UFC.
Especially fighters like Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam. Makhachev Admired. Nurmagomedov retired with an undefeated record and is considered one of the greatest fighters of all time. Makhachev is the current UFC 155-pound champion as of this writing.
“I hate it, but there’s nothing I can do about it. I weigh 155 pounds.”
In a video clip uploaded to Outlet X MMA ManiaCowboy explained that during his time at his previous gym, Jackson-Wink MMA Academy, he had a lot of fun watching Kennedy “annihilate” fighters in the area.
“What I love most about Tim Kennedy is that he’s as American as apple pie. We’re at Jackson’s and if some Russian Muslim fighter comes along, Timmy will singlehandedly take them down, smother them and totally destroy them,” Cerrone said.
Cerrone went on to say that his size meant he wasn’t able to throw the Russian like Kennedy did.
“I was sitting there saying, ‘Go beat him, Tim.’ He’d annihilate them. I loved it. He’d laugh and smile and rub their faces on the mat. He’d do mean things. I was like, ‘Yeah, Tim, that’s what I’m saying.’ He’d come back and say, ‘I hate them.’ I’d say, ‘Me too. I hate them, but there’s nothing I can do about it. I’m 155 pounds. He’s 200. And you beat him to it.'”
The best fighters from Dagestan are usually in the lower weight classes, especially Cerrone, which may be why he hasn’t been able to compete as well as he would have liked: Cerrone is a legendary fighter, but he never won a title, finishing with a record of 36 wins and 17 losses.
The original video of Cerrone’s remarks appears to have been uploaded to his YouTube channel. channel But apparently It was deleted The exact reason for the controversy is unclear. Neither Cerrone nor Kennedy have made any statements on the matter. Cerrone has not used X Pages since 2022, and she has not responded to the allegations on her own Instagram account (where she is active).
Cerrone has had a successful acting career since Fighting, and was featured in The Daily Wire’sTerror of the PrairieAlongside former fighter Gina Carano.
