Attacks on Spanish Military Officials in Ceuta Prompt Arrests

On Sunday night, three Moroccan migrants were apprehended after they threw bottles filled with corrosive liquids at military personnel in Ceuta.

In the days leading up to this incident, Spanish military officials faced at least three separate attacks from groups of illegal migrants who had entered Ceuta the previous month. Reports indicate that the most recent attack took place on Sunday afternoon.

According to accounts, these three Moroccan nationals targeted military officials in the San Amaro area of Ceuta. Fortunately, none of the military personnel were harmed in the attack, and the Spanish Civil Guard quickly executed a successful operation to capture the suspects.

Anonymous police sources revealed that the military officials were neither armed nor equipped with protective gear during the incident. Some officials claimed that the attack had been planned by the migrants.

This latest assault comes amid a series of peaceful protests held by residents of Ceuta, who are understandably frustrated by the ongoing migrant crisis affecting their city. During one of these demonstrations, bottles containing a similar corrosive substance were reportedly hurled at the protesters on Friday night.

Witnesses suggested that at least four individuals participated in that incident, with one of them fleeing the scene.

A further investigation suggests that local police, which identified members of certain NGOs buying materials for these attacks at Ceuta supermarkets, may lead to more significant revelations. Another report claims that one particular NGO is allegedly sheltering illegal migrants and providing them with materials used in violent confrontations. Members of the anti-mass migration VOX party have publicly called for action against the NGO, No Name Kitchen, urging the EU to freeze any funding it may receive.

“We cannot allow NGOs that are complicit in the invasion and enemies of the Spanish people to continue acting like criminal organizations, especially with public funds, and especially when they attack our defenders,” remarked Jorge Buxadé, a VOX member of the European Parliament.

This corrosive attack is just the latest in a concerning series of incidents involving illegal migrants targeting law enforcement in Ceuta. Previous reports highlighted two ambushes and stone-throwing incidents that occurred between Thursday and Saturday, resulting in injuries to at least five military members.

The escalating violence has led the Spanish Troops and Sailors Association (ATME) to call for military personnel to be recognized officially as a high-risk profession, granting them authority comparable to that of Spain’s police and Civil Guard.

Under current Spanish law, military officials are only authorized to engage in law enforcement under specific circumstances.
