Chad Michael Murray’s Near-Death Experience at 15
Chad Michael Murray recently shared a harrowing story from his past during a podcast episode of “Freakier Friday.” At just 15 years old, he faced serious health issues that almost claimed his life. He described how he was hospitalized for two and a half months after experiencing a twisted gut, requiring surgery and multiple blood transfusions.
“I was, uh, on my deathbed,” he explained. “I lost about 50% of my blood, and I remember seeing my father and the priest at the foot of my bed discussing last rites. It was terrifying.” Yet, despite the gravity of the situation, Murray recalled, “It really did save my life.”
The Aftermath of Surgery
Following the first operation, Murray’s organs were in bad shape, leading to a second surgery to help clear blood clots. “I remember being in the hospital for what felt like forever. They had to wait until everything healed,” he said. After leaving, he noticed he had lost a significant amount of weight. “I went from 180 pounds down to 118. I looked like a skeleton,” he remarked, adding that he hardly recognized himself in the mirror.
Yet amidst these challenges, Murray found an unexpected closeness with his family and, importantly, his faith. “My relationship with God grew significantly,” he noted. “My dad was juggling five kids at home, yet he spent endless nights with me in the hospital. That’s, well, that’s pure dedication.” He expressed gratitude, saying this experience helped forge a stronger bond between them.
Faith and Family
In recent interviews, Murray has spoken openly about how faith plays a crucial role in his life now. “We prioritize family and God, and it’s become essential for us,” he said, referring to his three children with wife Sarah Roemer. “Having a strong foundation really helps us navigate life’s challenges. It makes you think twice about your decisions, like, ‘Maybe we shouldn’t go there.’ It’s all about making better choices.” Murray’s journey reminds us that even in dark times, there can be light, especially in the connections and values we hold dear.
