Champion bodybuilder Chad McCrary dead at 49

Beloved champion bodybuilder Chad McCrary passed away earlier this month. He was 49 years old.

McCrary's brother, Lance McCrary, posted on social media, Posted a message From Mutant CEO Jim McMahon.

Mutant is a sports fitness brand and is sponsored by McCrary.

“Like everyone, I'm very sad and stunned,” McMahon said in the video. “That's difficult.”

McMahon also spoke about McCrary's legacy in the world of sports.

“What I always try to bring up, at least in our group, is what he and all of us have to go through, which is just friendship. What we're all trying to accomplish in this life is… It’s always about having good friends and good friendships.”

“I don't have much to say except that I'm heartbroken,” he reiterated. “That's the simplest way to say it. Peace and love to all. Thank you, Chad.”

Lance thanked McMahon for his remarks and said he was excited for his brother to be a part of the sports fitness brand.

“Jim, my brother was so proud to be a member of the mutant nation,” Lance wrote in the comments section of the post. “He was on top of your world when you were sponsoring him.”

Lance also praised McCrary's determination and ability to make others laugh.

“He was just a bodybuilder in beast mode, and his determination was unparalleled. Yet he could make you laugh and give you good advice. Just an all-around good guy. Yo.”

McCrary also worked as a motivational speaker and earned his aviator's license from Texarkana College, according to his obituary in the Texarkana Gazette.

He also worked as a paramedic at Lifenet and the Red River Army Depot.

In an interview with Wheelchair Bodybuilding, McCrary detailed his attempt to land a 100-foot triple jump during a motocross race.

When asked why he continues to be motivated to compete even though he's in a wheelchair, McCrary replied, “To try to inspire other people.”

“I was already into bodybuilding, but I just carried that over to the wheelchair.”

The cause of death was not immediately released.
