The RFU Championship Rugby Union match between Ampthill and Hartpury was abandoned on Saturday after referee Alex Thomas was hit by a ball.
Thomas, who has officiated matches in the Men's and Women's Premiership, received a clear kick from Hartpury's Harry Bazalgette in the 28th minute of the game in Bedfordshire.
The referee was treated on the field and then carried off on a stretcher to cheers from the crowd, and the game was called off minutes later.
Hartpury, from Gloucestershire, started in fifth place in the second division and gave the hosts a 14-0 lead with tries from Ethan Hunt and Aristoto Benz-Salomon, who scored just before the incident involving Thomas. .
Ampthill released the following statement: “We wish Alex a speedy recovery. We are grateful that this was a disappointing decision for the supporters who attended the match, but our priority is the players and the match. It’s about the health of everyone involved.”
The club, who sit eighth in the Championship, confirmed that the match would be rescheduled in due course and that all original tickets would be valid for the rematch. Championship Rugby has yet to comment on Saturday's cancellation.

Elsewhere, Ealing Trailfinders defeated Cambridge 95-7 and former leaders Coventry remained top of the second division despite losing 46-14 to Cornish Pirates. Doncaster defeated bottom club Caldy 22-0 at home.
