Chargers Triumph Over Steelers in “Sunday Night Football”
On “Sunday Night Football,” the Los Angeles Chargers showcased their skills, besting the Pittsburgh Steelers with a score of 25-10.
With this win, the Chargers now sit at 7-3 for the season, and they’re 4-2 at home. The Steelers, on the other hand, have dropped to 5-4.
The game was a defensive showdown throughout, but it was evident that the Chargers were determined not to let Aaron Rodgers have an easy ride. He completed 16 of 31 passes for 161 yards, managing only one touchdown while throwing two interceptions.
Justin Herbert, despite facing pressure due to injuries along the offensive line—especially with starting tackles Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater out for the season—was still able to lead his team effectively. The Steelers managed to sack him five times, including one by TJ Watt, as he approaches his older brother JJ Watt’s total of 114.5 sacks.
Yet, Herbert proved himself as the more effective quarterback of the night, ending up with a promising performance that included a touchdown pass to Rad McConkie just 12 seconds before halftime.
McConkie may have caught only four passes, but he made them count, one being a 58-yarder that contributed to his total of 107 yards. This impressive catch helped set the stage for a touchdown run by Kimani Vidal, who rushed for 95 yards on 25 carries.
For the Steelers, Rodgers managed to score late in the fourth quarter when Roman Wilson delivered a 27-yard slant, making it a 25-10 contest. However, Keenan Allen’s recovery of the onside kick sealed the game for Pittsburgh, ending any hope of a comeback.
Pittsburgh’s struggles were evident as they faced relentless pressure from the Chargers’ defense. Rodgers even fumbled in the end zone, which—thankfully for him—resulted in just a safety instead of a touchdown for the Chargers.
This loss adds intrigue to the AFC North, especially as the Baltimore Ravens won against the Minnesota Vikings on the same day. Both the Ravens and Vikings now sit at 4-5, trailing the Steelers by just one game, with their first matchup set for December 7.
Interestingly, during the Chargers’ final drive, Allen made a notable catch, bringing his reception total to 956, breaking the franchise record previously held by legendary tight end Antonio Gates, who was present at the game.
Looking more closely at the stats, Herbert ended the night with 20 completions out of 33 attempts, totaling 220 passing yards, and even added 19 rushing yards on five carries. Quentin Johnston also contributed with five receptions for 42 yards.
