Jim Harbaugh is the frontrunner for the NFL Coach of the Year award for the 2024-25 season.
Fresh off winning a national championship title at the University of Michigan, the new head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers started the offseason as oddsmakers’ clear top candidate to take home his second COTY honor.
Harbaugh is currently ranked at +550 at DraftKings Sportsbook to win the award next season, significantly ahead of No. 2 prospect Matt LaFleur of the Green Bay Packers at +800.
Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris (+1000), also a recruit, is the only coach other than Harbaugh and LaFleur with odds of 10/1 or higher.
All four coaching staff members – Shane Steichen, DeMeco Ryans, Robert Saleh and Mike McDonald – rank at +1400.
Current winner Kevin Stefanski of the Cleveland Browns wins for the second year in a row at +6000, which ties him for the second-worst odds on the board.
The Chargers entered 2023 with playoff aspirations, but they have had a disappointing record in recent years, going 5-12 last season.
Harbaugh, who has a history of instantly turning dire situations around, joins a franchise with Justin Herbert, one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks.
In 2011, Harbaugh joined a 49ers team that hadn’t had a winning record in 10 years and quickly led the team to a 13-3 record and a conference championship appearance, winning the COTY along the way.
Four years later, one year after the University of Michigan went 5-7 under head coach Brady Hoke, Harbaugh won 10 games with the Wolverines.

Oddsmakers are apparently betting that he could pull off another miraculous comeback in Los Angeles.
The Chargers currently have the seventh-best odds to win the AFC (+1300) and are tied with the Jets for the 12th-best odds to win the 2025 Super Bowl.
Herbert has the fifth-best odds to win the NFL MVP award, along with Jordan Love and Brockie Purdy.
