DOJ Issues Warning on Illegal Voting Ahead of Midterms

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has issued a stern warning regarding illegal voting as the 2026 midterm elections approach. Recently, they announced charges against 16 individuals across various states for election-related crimes, which include noncitizens participating in the voting process.

One DOJ official emphasized, “American elections are for Americans.”

The list of charges comprises illegal voting, improper voter registration, wire fraud, identity fraud, and even firearm-related offenses, all of which were outlined in a comprehensive release from the DOJ.

They followed this up with a strong message on social media: “If you are not allowed to vote in our elections, you shouldn’t. And if you do, that’s a CRIME. This isn’t a partisan issue!”

On Tuesday, U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche revealed additional charges against 11 people for unlawful voting or fraudulent registration in the 2022 and 2024 elections.

“We are seeing illegal aliens voting,” Blanche noted during a press conference.

The charges involve eight noncitizens based in Texas, while other defendants hail from states like Idaho, Georgia, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, New Jersey, and Michigan.

This initiative is part of an effort to combat perceived threats to the integrity of U.S. elections, a campaign that began during the Trump administration.

Some specific examples shared by the DOJ were notable.

In Georgia, for instance, Analiea Milliscent Eccles, a Venezuelan national and DACA recipient, was charged with voting nine times between 2008 and 2024, having falsely claimed U.S. citizenship to do so. Meanwhile, Avila Gomez, a Mexican national in Idaho, allegedly registered to vote by misrepresenting his citizenship and participated in elections in May 2022 and November 2024, facing additional charges related to wire fraud and identification documents.

The DOJ also brought attention to a lawful permanent resident in New Jersey, Santana Coulibaly, who registered in 2016 and voted in federal elections up through the 2024 presidential election. Coulibaly now faces charges linked to her naturalization applications.

Assistant Attorney General Colin M. McDonald from the DOJ’s Fraud Division told an outlet that the Trump administration has now charged a total of 50 noncitizens with illegal voting. “America’s elections are for Americans,” he stated.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin added that a broader investigation is currently underway. According to Mullin, there are over 1,620 open cases and 151 arrests have been made, with an estimated 300,000 more suspected violations in existence.

“Every single vote that was at the hands of an illegal immigrant canceled out a citizen who was legally registered and able to vote,” Mullin remarked.
