Charlamagne the God Addresses Airline Policy Changes

On Wednesday, radio host Charlamagne the God expressed support for new airline policies, suggesting that overweight passengers might want to reconsider their eating habits instead of opting for a second seat due to their size.

Starting January 27, 2026, Southwest Airlines is set to make significant changes by ending its open seating policy. Instead, customers will be able to purchase tickets based on different boarding groups and choose their preferred seating arrangements.

The airline also advised larger passengers to buy the additional seats they may need in advance to avoid complications during travel. Beginning next month, those in need of more space will have to acquire an extra seat at the airport, along with the corresponding fee.

During a discussion on “The Breakfast Club,” Charlamagne quipped, “Why aren’t you letting them fly cargo?” He elaborated, “I’m okay with this. If one seat doesn’t fit, then just buy two. Don’t play the victim here; be aware of your size!”

Co-host Jess Hilarias chimed in with concerns about the financial implications of such policies, questioning what those who can’t afford another seat are supposed to do. She also pointed out how weight gain can be unintentional, which adds to the complexity.

Charlamagne had a counterpoint, remarking on dietary choices: “Well, maybe cut back on the bread. Simple solution, right?” He also noted that tall individuals face similar challenges, as they often need to buy extra legroom. “It’s not just heavyset folks; tall people have issues too!”

He emphasized that the issue is not just about space, but respect, asserting that cramming anyone into a seat uncomfortably isn’t fair to them or other passengers.
