Charlamagne Tha God Shares Criticism of Democrats After Obama’s Call to Action

Radio host Charlamagne Tha God remarked that recent criticisms of former President Obama’s fellow Democrats are nothing new, pointing out that their base has echoed these sentiments for quite some time—perhaps a decade. As the Democratic Party wrestles with establishing a new direction, Obama delivered a candid message of encouragement at a fundraiser, urging party members to find a way out of their current political predicament.

During a private gathering in New Jersey, Obama suggested that Democrats need to reflect deeply, even going so far as to say, “I think we need to pour our belly button and we need to whine a little in the fetal position.” He emphasized that this period of introspection is crucial for strengthening the party.

Charlamagne expressed some frustration regarding Obama’s language, mentioning, “When I hear people like President Obama talk about the everyday struggles that people face, it feels a bit distracting. I’ve been saying it for years.” He feels that Democrats have been aware of their shortcomings for a long time. “We’ve known about this co-sickness for a decade,” he added, referring to the state of the party.

In a rare public statement, Obama managed to critique wealthy liberals as well, implying that, “We’re all going to be tested.” This message resonated with some listeners.

Charlamagne went on to say that he could list numerous Democratic leaders who need to assert themselves more decisively. “For instance, they should have told Biden that he was one president, but it wasn’t his call alone,” he noted. It appears that he believes Obama’s recent comments on needing strength ring hollow given the Democrats’ track record over the past ten years.

A co-host chimed in, urging Charlamagne to remember that this is also Obama’s perspective. “That’s President Obama’s view too!” he insisted.

When discussing what “enhancement” might mean in political terms, Charlamagne provided concrete examples: “Strengthening looks like telling Biden, ‘You will be one president.’ It means, ‘Hey, [Ruth Bader Ginsburg], you should step down because you’re too old.’” He seemed to think that these kinds of decisions could illustrate true strength.
