Charlamagne Tha God Calls for Entertainers to Consider Presidential Runs in 2028
Charlamagne Tha God, known for his role on “The Breakfast Club,” is advocating for entertainers to step into politics, specifically suggesting that John Stewart should run as a Democratic candidate in the 2028 presidential election. This was mentioned during his appearance on “My Views with Lara Trump.”
“I know this sounds a bit out there, perhaps, but I really think John Stewart should run in 2028,” he remarked to Lara Trump.
After the former Vice President Kamala Harris faced defeat against Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, Charlamagne called for a change within the Democratic Party, emphasizing that the party needs a “change agent.” He believes that someone like Stewart could bring a fresh approach and engage a wider audience.
“If we’re looking for change agents, we need to shake things up. John Stewart is that person. He’s a celebrity but also knows what he’s talking about,” he noted. “I believe he has the potential to really make waves in 2028.”
Interestingly, Charlamagne also floated the idea of Stephen Colbert joining Stewart on this hypothetical political ticket, even stating, “Colbert’s not going to do the job,” hinting at his view on Colbert’s contributions to the political conversation through his show.
As for Colbert, CBS announced that “The Late Show” will conclude in May 2026, calling the decision a financial one amidst challenges in the late-night landscape.
In his interview, Charlamagne suggested looking at various governors as viable Democratic candidates for 2028, mentioning figures like Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Maryland Governor Wes Moore. “They have a demonstrated track record, and you can see how they might perform on a national level,” he said.
While he expressed support for Democratic potential candidates, Charlamagne didn’t disregard Republican choices either, naming Nikki Haley, former South Carolina Governor and UN Ambassador, as someone he might support.
“Traditional conservatives are attempting to reclaim the Republican Party,” he added, reflecting on the current political climate.
Charlamagne also touched on Trump’s first six months in office, commenting on Harris’s political prospects, and discussed various policy proposals from emerging candidates like Zoran Mamdani in New York City.
The full interview can be viewed on “My Views with Lara Trump,” scheduled for Saturday, August 2nd, at 9 PM.
