Charles Barkley calls college tuition prices in US a travesty

NBA Hall of Fame Charles Barkley wanted a boys basketball game in his alma mater Auburn against Ole Miss on Wednesday, but he didn't write down any words about his college education status.

He specifically addressed the costs.

Little provocative, Berkley began sharing opinions about the name, image and portrait (nil) system in college sports.

“I think we have to talk about college basketball,” he said. “I don't think the NIL model is sustainable. I want to hear it and get everything to all these kids. But I ask the university to come up with $200,000, $30 million a year, especially some of the smaller schools. I don't think it's a sustainable model.”

Nir is a controversial topic, and critics of the system say it creates inequality as larger schools can outperform smaller schools during the recruitment of top prospects.

And while Berkley hopes to get paid for student-athletes, he believes tuition prices at schools across the country are too high.

Charles Berkley was “frustrated” that Victor Wenbagnama was given the title “Face of the League.”

“I love these kids. I want to do well with them. But you have to understand, I try to tell people, most of these kids need to get a free education. “Because one of the great travelies in this country is what we charge our kids to go to college. We need to find a way to allow small schools to compete.”

Educational Data Initiative It was found that the university's tuition inflation rate averaged 3.63% per year from 2010-11 grade to 2022-23. Tuition fees in public, four-year schools or universities also increased by 36.7% from 2010 to 2023.

In the past, university athletics provided opportunities for free education primarily at Division I schools and universities with scholarships. However, student-athletes who make money through NIL have been a decades-long conversation, especially considering that profit institutions create specific programs that have national appeal.
