Charles Barkley shares his strong opinions on men competing with women in sports

Barkley Weighs in on Men Competing in Women’s Sports

Charles Barkley, a well-known figure in the NBA Hall of Fame, has made it clear that he believes discussions about men competing in women’s sports shouldn’t continue. He expressed uncertainty about the argument’s relevance anymore.

In a conversation with Dan Dakich from Outkick, Barkley was asked about a study purportedly funded by Nike. This research focuses on the effectiveness of hormonal blockers for male adolescents and how they may influence athletic performance.

The study gained traction following a New York Times article that highlighted the case of Blair Fleming, a male athlete who excelled in women’s volleyball in the NCAA in 2024.

“Have you seen this?” Dakich pressed Barkley. To which Barkley responded, “I haven’t, but let me make it simple for you, Dan. Men should not compete against women in sports.” He dismissed the complexities surrounding the topic as “bulls” happening in the world.

“I don’t think it’s okay for men to play sports against women,” Barkley reiterated. He noted his support for LGBTQ+ communities but emphasized, “If anyone thinks there’s a gray area here, I think they’re missing the point.”

Barkley further stated, “If someone has a problem with my view, that’s on them. I won’t change my stance on this. It’s simply wrong.” Dakich echoed his sentiments, suggesting that this issue isn’t worth the fight, especially in light of the myriad of political arguments happening today. Barkley seemed to share that sentiment, commenting on how he didn’t view the topic as controversial.

Surprisingly, Barkley is unafraid to address controversial social issues. Not long ago, he criticized the city of San Francisco for its approach to homelessness. Reflecting on the larger discourse, Barkley concluded, “There are way more significant issues to address than this one about transgender athletes in women’s sports.”
