Charles Esten performed at the same venue just days before his former “Nashville” co-star Hayden Panettiere passed away.
He mentioned this on Instagram, referring to it as a ‘strange coincidence’ after Panettiere, who was 36, died from an apparent overdose.
Esten pointed out that his show was at the same Judson Mills location—not just in Greenville, South Carolina, but at the very spot where Panettiere’s life ended.
“We were actually at Judson Mills itself. It’s surreal to think that she was reportedly there the following day,” Esten said, referring to the loft apartment where she was found. He expressed disbelief at the timing, noting that after their performance, his tour bus had already taken them to Wilmington, where they were busy preparing for the next show, unaware of the tragic news that had just unfolded.
Sharing his feelings, he called it a “very strange coincidence,” and reflected, “I wish we could have bumped into her somehow. It would have been wonderful to see her, to hug her, and tell her just how much we loved her.” ❤️
With a heavy heart, Esten expressed his shock and sadness over Panettiere’s death, recalling their first encounter after auditioning for “Nashville.” He remembered feeling nervous when he opened the door to leave but was greeted by Panettiere, who was enthusiastic and spirited in her role as Juliet Barnes.
He described how her face lit up with joy, saying, “That was great!” which made a lasting impression on him. The two developed a close friendship, and Esten praised her extraordinary talent, highlighting how she infused her characters with depth and charisma, regardless of her personal struggles.
In his heartfelt tribute, Esten concluded with, “God bless you, Hayden. Rest in peace and light.”
Many of Panettiere’s co-stars from “Nashville,” including Connie Britton and Sylvia Jeffries, also expressed their grief. Britton shared on Instagram how Panettiere was full of life and sparkle, stating that words can hardly capture the sadness of her passing. “Just heartbreak,” she added.
Jeffries reflected on Panettiere’s bright future, lamenting how her inner demons sometimes overshadowed her potential. Sam Palladio, who played Gunnar Scott on the show, also expressed his sorrow, describing the loss as immense and acknowledging Panettiere’s generosity and brilliance, which illuminated every space she entered. He felt deeply saddened by the turmoil she endured and emphasized that she didn’t deserve it.
