Charles Kushner appointed as ambassador to France despite previous legal issues

Charles Kushner’s Nomination for Ambassadorship

Charles Kushner, a New Jersey property developer, is set to be considered by the US Senate on Monday for the ambassador roles to France and Monaco. He’s notably connected to Ivanka Trump, being her stepfather.

Kushner, who faced previous legal issues, received clemency from Donald Trump regarding tax evasion and Federal Election Commission violations that date back to 2005. In 1985, he established the Kushner Company and has been a significant philanthropist, particularly for Jewish institutions, including Yeshiva University in Washington Heights, Manhattan. Additionally, he has contributed to St. Barnabas Hospital in New Jersey.

During a confirmation hearing on May 1, Kushner reflected on his past legal troubles, suggesting they have honed his judgment and prepared him for his potential roles. He stated, “I think my past mistakes actually make me… my worth better and I’m more qualified to do this job,” before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Now celebrating his 71st birthday, Kushner was nominated last November. Trump hailed him as “an amazing business leader, philanthropist, and deal maker.” He also mentioned that Kushner had been recognized as New Jersey’s Entrepreneur of the Year and had served as commissioner and chair of the New York & New Jersey Port Authority, participating in various prestigious committees.

Trump also pointed out that Kushner’s family, including his wife, children, and grandchildren, are significant aspects of his life. He emphasized that Kushner’s experience in the White House, especially during initiatives like Warp Speed, would be beneficial in strengthening America’s ties with key allies.
