President-elect Trump has nominated Jared Kushner's father, Charles Kushner, to be the new U.S. ambassador to France.
“I am pleased to nominate New Jersey native Charles Kushner to be the United States Ambassador to France,” President Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Saturday. “He is a great business leader, philanthropist, dealmaker, and will be a strong advocate on behalf of our country and its interests.”
In 2020, Kushner was pardoned by President Trump, 15 years after he was convicted on charges including falsifying tax returns, tampering with witnesses and making illegal campaign contributions.
Kushner, the founder of Kushner Companies, was convicted and served a two-year sentence. The witness tampering charge stems from an incident in which he paid a prostitute to seduce his brother-in-law and recorded the encounter on video. Mr. Kushner then sent the footage to the man's wife, Mr. Kushner's sister, in an effort to prevent him from testifying before the grand jury.

Kushner was indicted in 2005 by then-U.S. Attorney General Chris Christie. Christie later called the case in court in 2019 “one of the most abhorrent and abhorrent crimes I prosecuted while I was a U.S. attorney.” PBS interview.
President Trump praised Kushner's accomplishments in a statement Saturday, calling Kushner Companies “one of America's largest and most successful privately held real estate companies.”
“He was named New Jersey Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young, was appointed to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council, and served as commissioner and chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, as well as a board member. Some of our nation's top institutions, including New York University,” President Trump said.

“My son Jared worked closely with me in the White House, particularly on Operation Warp Speed, criminal justice reform, and the Abraham Accords,” the statement concluded. “Together, we will strengthen America’s partnership with France, our oldest ally and one of our greatest nations!”
In 2018, Jared Kushner worked to get Congress to pass the First Step Act, which focused on federal prison reform. Kushner became passionate about the issue after seeing how his father was treated in prison.
