Charlie Hull’s Scary Collapse at Amundi Evian Championship
Charlie Hull shared her experience after she collapsed during the Amundi Evian Championship earlier this month. The 29-year-old golfer was taken near the No. 4 tee during the first round of the tournament. Reflecting on the situation, Hull mentioned that she had been feeling unwell leading up to the event.
“I was really rough on Monday before the tournament, feeling sick all day,” she explained. This discomfort followed her flight home after competing in Ireland, leaving her with lingering fatigue the next day.
Despite not feeling her best, Hull participated in the Pro-Am events to avoid disappointing her teammates. On the day of the tournament, she awoke feeling quite dizzy, experiencing cold sweats and a significant lack of energy. Still, Hull decided to push through and play.
“I got through about 12 holes, and I was actually playing solid golf,” she recalled. But by the back nine, specifically during the third hole on her twelfth hole, dizziness hit her hard. “Everything felt muffled,” she said, which likely contributed to what happened next.
“I hit a bunker shot and ended up making a birdie, but then I started feeling worse,” she said. When she called for a medic, just before her next tee shot, she suddenly lost her vision and hearing. Fortunately, she was having a reasonably good round, reaching 3 or 4 under par before her fainting incident.
Once she blacked out, Hull couldn’t recall anything. She later learned from her caddy that her eyes had rolled back and she was unresponsive for over a minute.
“When I woke up, it felt like coming out of a deep sleep,” she described. “I looked around and saw about 15 people, not in my bedroom, which was quite the surprise.”
After the incident, while resting was crucial, Hull admitted she struggled with inactivity. “I don’t like sitting still. I’m itching to get back to practicing,” she mentioned, adding that she’s been continuing her training despite the episode.
Returning to competition, Hull played at the ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open, where she posted a score of 1 under par, trailing the leader by four strokes.
