Charlie Day’s Unexpected Joke About Luigi Mangione
Actor Charlie Day recently made a surprising remark about Luigi Mangione during an interview.
Day, who portrays Luigi in the popular film “Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” joined co-stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Keegan-Michael Key for a discussion in Tokyo on the comedy podcast “Tintoria.” During the chat, the interviewer asked Day, “You play Luigi, a great Italian. Who is your favorite Luigi in recent American history?”
The response came quickly. Day burst into laughter while repeating the question and said, “Well, first of all, ah, Luigi Mangione, second place.”
Taylor-Joy, trying to suppress her amusement, buried her face in her hands. Meanwhile, Key couldn’t contain his laughter, clearly enjoying the moment. Mangione has been implicated in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
The entire room erupted in laughter, as Day’s comment was taken as a joke. However, it’s somewhat unclear if Day was simply playing along or if he was expressing true admiration for Mangione.
As it stands, Mangione remains in custody while awaiting trial for his alleged role in Thompson’s death.
