Charlie Hurt Discusses How Democrats Behind Shutdown Went Against Their Fundamental Principles

Government Shutdown Sparks Tensions Within Democratic Party

On Thursday, Fox News host Charlie Hurt claimed that Democrats have “betrayed their core identity” by leading the charge for a government shutdown.

The shutdown began after lawmakers could not agree on a temporary funding measure, which resulted in federal services being halted mid-week. During his appearance on “Ingraham’s Angle,” Hurt said that while it seems unreasonable for Democrats to instigate the shutdown over healthcare demands, it ultimately impacts millions of Americans who lose access to essential services during such standoffs.

“The real issue here is that even though they’re not being seriously considered, we’re trying to engage with their perspective. They fundamentally believe that government is the solution to our problems,” Hurt expressed to host Laura Ingraham. “So when they decide to shut down the government, it contradicts the very essence of their party’s belief—that government is the answer to everything.”

Chuck Schumer is at the center of this political turmoil, working to manage pressure from the far left while also safeguarding himself against potential significant challenges. “From the onset, the situation looks absurd, especially considering the timing. Chuck Schumer has these concerns about his left flank,” Hurt noted.

He added that while Democrats appear to be stumbling, former President Donald Trump may capitalize on the chaos, potentially using the shutdown to advance his agenda more aggressively throughout the year. “They’re focusing on politics, and they’re going to falter. Trump has a knack for reshaping political landscapes, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he leveraged this shutdown to push his agenda even harder in the coming months.”

Democrats are advocating for health-related funding, and Vice President JD Vance criticized efforts to revive healthcare programs from the Biden era that provided taxpayer-funded services to illegal immigrants, which were ended during Trump’s presidency.

In a heated exchange with reporters, California Rep. Maxine Waters hinted that her party is prioritizing health benefits for undocumented immigrants. This announcement followed Congress’s withdrawal of funds after a package was retracted back in July.
