Charlie Kirk and a rabbi friend spoke for hours prior to his death: 'He was feeling confrontational'

Charlie Kirk appeared to be in good spirits, preparing for a “combat” mindset just before an incident occurred. His friend, Rabbi Pesach Wolicki, spoke with him via Zoom the night before his tragic death at Utah Valley University.

Wolicki, who lives in Israel, remarked that Kirk was enthusiastic about returning to campus tours. They often communicated before his public engagements, where Wolicki provided advice on effectively addressing issues related to Israel.

Describing their relationship, Wolicki stated they had formed a close friendship and labeled Kirk as “incredibly brave” despite facing criticism from some conservatives regarding his support for Israel.

Wolicki expressed concern for Kirk’s challenges, noting that he often faced aggressive questioning about Israel during events. Kirk, he said, was always eager for accurate information.

In the hours leading up to the unfortunate incident, they strategized together, preparing for the criticisms they anticipated would arise during their university tours. Wolicki mentioned that Kirk would take on the role of a devil’s advocate to sharpen his arguments, describing him as preparing for the inevitable discussions and potential conflicts.

The rabbi noted, “Charlie stood alone in his support for Israel,” acknowledging that relinquishing that stance would have likely made his life easier. He added that Kirk consistently resisted pressure from notable figures to abandon his pro-Israel views.

Update on Charlie Kirk’s Tragic Incident in Utah

  • Authorities identified 22-year-old Tyler Robinson as the suspect in Charlie Kirk’s shooting at Utah Valley University on September 10.
  • Robinson is expected to face charges of aggravated murder, among other accusations, as outlined in a statement released on September 12.
  • Kirk, known for founding Turning Point USA, was shot in the neck during an event tied to the American comeback tour.
  • President Trump joined a chorus of voices calling for severe penalties for the perpetrator.
  • Kirk’s remains were transported from Utah to Arizona and were escorted by Vice President J.D. Vance to a funeral home in Phoenix.
  • Kirk is survived by his wife and two young children.

The rabbi reminisced about meeting Kirk for the first time at a small Sabbath dinner in December 2023, where he learned about Kirk’s commitment to observing the Sabbath.

Wolicki noted that every Friday night and Saturday until sunset, Kirk would turn off his phone, which he found impressive for someone so busy. He mentioned that this practice had strengthened Kirk’s family bonds.

Kirk was also working on a new book titled “Stop in the Name of God: Why Respecting the Sabbath Changes Your Life,” which has already become quite popular.

Wolicki reflected, “Charlie wanted to truly understand the elements of a strong family rooted in biblical values. Isn’t it ironic that his passing might actually elevate the book’s prominence?”

In their last conversation, they talked about setting up a new WhatsApp channel to address questions from their tours.

“We never really said goodbye,” Wolicki said, noting the abruptness of their last interaction.
