Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway Established in Florida
A new highway in Clermont, Florida has been named the Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway, honoring the conservative activist who was tragically killed in Utah last month. Lake County commissioners unanimously approved the designation on September 23, following a proposal by Commissioner Anthony Sabatini.
“I wanted to commemorate Charlie Kirk because he dedicated his life to serving his country and encouraging civic engagement among young Americans,” Sabatini expressed, highlighting Kirk’s efforts with Turning Point USA (TPUSA).
Interestingly, Kirk’s memorial highway has made Lake County the first local government in the U.S. to honor him in this way. Sabatini took to X to share his gratitude, noting, “I hope this inspires other counties and cities across the country.” The newly designated road will connect US 27 to the Orange County Line.
On October 1, Sabatini posted an update celebrating the highway sign’s installation. He seemed quite enthusiastic, declaring, “It’s official – our Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway sign is up!” His pride in leading this initiative was evident.
In the wake of Kirk’s assassination, support for TPUSA has surged. The Florida Attorney General’s Office has announced plans to challenge public schools that obstruct the formation of TPUSA chapters. Just days after Kirk’s memorial service, TPUSA reported receiving over 120,000 inquiries from individuals interested in starting new campus chapters.
There’s also movement in Oklahoma, where former public leader Ryan Walters has pledged to create TPUSA chapters in all high schools.
In a significant leadership change, Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erica Kirk, has stepped in as the new CEO and chairman of the board for TPUSA.
Currently, TPUSA boasts around 900 college chapters and 1,200 high school branches throughout the country.
