A video recently acquired shows the moments leading up to the tragic shooting of Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA. The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
According to a university spokesperson, the shooting took place around 12:20 PM. Kirk was shot at the event and subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he unfortunately passed away.
The FBI mentioned that several individuals were taken into custody for questioning, but one person was released after being interrogated.
Details Surrounding the Incident
Before the shooting, there was a gathering at a white tent displaying messages like “American comeback” and “Prove Me Wrong.” Organizers had estimated the event would draw around 1,400 attendees, with people traveling from various states to participate. Video footage captured attendees fleeing the scene immediately after the gunfire.
In the wake of Kirk’s death, heartfelt messages poured in. One statement highlighted how he was “loved and admired” by many, adding, “Charlie, we love you!”
Attendees described a chaotic scene. Joey Gallegos, a student at Utah Valley University, recalled how everyone rushed to escape the area, noting that people were “tripping over each other and jumping over the barricades.”
Another attendee, Samuel Reno, expressed his excitement about meeting Kirk earlier that day, saying he was eager to hear Kirk speak. After the shot rang out, he initially thought it was a firecracker until he caught a whiff of gunpowder and started helping others get to safety.
Kirk was scheduled to continue his speaking tour across the U.S., a tour designed to reach out to young people, amidst some protests from student groups.
