Trump to Posthumously Honor Charlie Kirk with Medal of Freedom
President Donald Trump will be awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Charlie Kirk on what would have been his 32nd birthday. This posthumous recognition is set to be a significant moment for those who knew him.
Tyler Bowyer, the Chief Operating Officer of Turning Point USA and a close friend of Kirk, expressed how emotional the ceremony will be. “It’s really heartfelt because he absolutely deserves it,” Bowyer shared on “Fox & Friends.” He also mentioned how challenging it will be to face the day without Kirk’s friends around.
Bowyer plans to attend the ceremony at the White House alongside Kirk’s widow, Erica, who recently took over as CEO of Turning Point USA.
Kirk was tragically killed on September 10th at Utah Valley University, leaving behind two young children. On Tuesday, which marks the day of the award, he would have turned 32.
Bowyer highlighted Erica’s incredible strength following her husband’s death. “It’s inspiring to witness how she’s managing to raise a family and uphold the Turning Point organization at the same time,” he remarked.
In a touching tribute, country music artist Cole Swindell released a new single titled “Make Heaven Crowded” in Kirk’s honor. Swindell was motivated to write the song after he heard Erica use that phrase in a heartfelt speech following Kirk’s passing.
Reflecting on Erica’s words, Swindell said, “It hit me deeply and prompted me to look at my own life, leading to the creation of this song for Charlie.” In her address, Erica expressed a poignant sentiment about Charlie being in heaven now, doing what he loved.
Trump, who has referred to Kirk as a friend, is returning to the U.S. from a Middle Eastern trip upon the recent release of Israeli hostages. He commented on the emotional challenge of returning, saying, “It’s going to be quick, but I’ll be back in time for Charlie.”
Kirk was a co-founder of Turning Point USA, an organization dedicated to promoting conservative values among youth. Known for his forthright speaking style and engaging debates on pressing issues, he made quite an impact, though not without stirring some controversy among students.
Bowyer, who has been with Turning Point for over a decade, reflected on his first encounter with Kirk: “Even back then, he was one of the most gripping speakers I’ve ever encountered. He had a remarkable ability to connect with and inspire students.”
