Erika Kirk Unanimously Elected as New CEO of TurningPoint USA
Christian influencer Caroline Joy Joy recently appeared on Fox & Friends to discuss the decision to elect Erika Kirk as the new CEO of TurningPoint USA, following the tragic death of her husband, Charlie Kirk. They also talked about what lies ahead for the organization under her guidance.
In her reflections, Erika, who is Charlie Kirk’s widow, mentioned she felt uncomfortable making decisions about pursuing the death penalty for her husband’s killer. She said, “I asked, ‘Are you angry with this man? Do you want to seek the death penalty?’ Honestly, I hope the government will take care of it.” It’s a heavy topic, and she wonders if contemplating such things might affect her peace in the afterlife.
Charlie Kirk, age 31, was shot and killed on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University. He was responding to a question about a transgender mass shooter when he was fatally injured.
Tyler Robinson, 22, who is linked to a transgender partner, reportedly confessed to the murder through messages with this partner. President Trump has expressed a hope that Robinson will be sentenced to death, and Utah Governor Spencer Cox mentioned that authorities have the necessary evidence to pursue the death penalty in this case.
Charlie Kirk had been a vocal advocate for young people to reject what he termed “sexual disorder” and the connection culture of today. His pastor shared memories of this remarkable man.
In the days leading up to the shooting, Erika, concerned for her husband’s safety, met with a faith leader in Phoenix to pray for him prior to his speaking events. They both had grave concerns about potential threats against him; Erika had even urged him to wear a bulletproof vest. Although Charlie brushed this suggestion aside, citing his faith in his team’s security measures, he acknowledged to his wife and staff that he was aware of the risks.
After hearing the tragic news, Erika, who had been unable to attend an event with Charlie because of medical appointments, was informed of the shooting by long-time assistant Michael McCoy. When she arrived at the hospital, the local sheriff cautioned her about the severity of her husband’s injuries, warning her against viewing him. Nonetheless, Erika insisted she needed to see him one last time, saying, “I want to see what they did to my husband.” Desiring closure, she faced the painful reality.
Having been appointed as the new CEO of TurningPoint USA on September 18, Erika is now tasked with leading the organization during this tumultuous time.
