A retired FBI expert suggested early Thursday that the assassin targeting Charlie Kirk might have chosen a rooftop that allowed for a quick getaway. The sniper fired a single, lethal shot from the top of the Ross Center Building at Utah Valley University.
James Galliano, the former FBI manager, noted during an appearance on “Fox and Friends” that if the shooter exited the roof, they could easily reach an outdoor parking lot behind the building. He expressed concern, saying, “Within three to five minutes of that shot, the person could have been on the move, potentially miles away.” He also pointed out that Provo Airport is only about 45 minutes from the location.
Kirk, aged 31, was shot in the throat while addressing attendees at an outdoor event on Wednesday. Witnesses reported screams and chaos as students fell to the ground, injured. Sadly, he was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his wounds, leaving behind a wife and two children.
After the shooting, authorities detained two individuals of interest, but both were later released. Despite the intricate nature of the ongoing investigation, Galliano expressed hope that law enforcement might have suspects in custody by the end of the day, emphasizing the scale of the manhunt.
Galliano dismissed theories suggesting it was a professional assassination but acknowledged that it appeared to have been premeditated. He remarked that, while some believe it was a professional hit, the distance of over 500 feet makes it a relatively straightforward shot with a rifle.
