Charlie McAvoy will be out to Team USA's four-country face-off finals vs. Canada on Thursday due to infection and shoulder injuries, but remains in the hospital after receiving shoulder treatment on Tuesday.
The Boston Bruins provided an update Wednesday morning to a star defenseman who was infected with an injury he suffered during the American opening game against Finland last Thursday.
The Bruins said the injury lies in the scapula joint of McAvoy on his right shoulder, and the Long Island native was treated by Team USA staff in Montreal.
“When he returned to Boston, he developed increased pain. He was evaluated by the Boston Bruins medical staff. Dr. Peter Asnis, a doctor with the Bruins head team, said: He said in the statement. “He was irrigated and necrotic surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital on February 18th. He remains in the hospital and is being treated with IV antibiotics, and his condition has improved. Masu.”
Missing McAvoy for the championship game is a blow to the US, but they pique their appetite with Quinn Hughes, the Canucks defensive man who was originally planning on going to the team but was injured in the tournament lead-up. Have a potential fallback plan.
American director Mike Sullivan initially said Hughes was “coming.” It showed that the defenders were on their way to Boston.

But Hughes will be in Canucks practice in Vancouver on Tuesday and will be reportedly staying there unless there is a guaranteed path to play in Thursday's Championship Crash.
The second player must be on the sidelines with injuries as Hughes is eligible to play, based on the revised rules. Originally, it was not permitted to add new players to the roster for the tournament.
