Popular AI chatbot ChatGPT has been facing troublesome technical issues in recent days, resulting in it providing users with meaningless and unpleasant responses.

Many users reported that when asked a question, the AI started responding with long messages that made no sense at all, instead of providing a proper and consistent answer.
In an alarming example shared on Reddit, ChatGPT’s responses suddenly started repeatedly shouting “Fun to listen to!” while continuing a conversation about jazz music and records. And spewing absolute nonsense. When I asked a simple question about a topic like computers or cooking recipes, the AI would spit out long sentences that made no logical sense at all.

Disturbingly, some users said that ChatGPT’s immediate response seemed to imply that the AI was actively in the room with the user. When one user asked for help with a coding problem, the chatbot replied with a rambling, mostly nonsensical answer: “Hold the line as if the AI were in the room.” Naturally, receiving such a creepy message in the middle of the night proved terrifying.
Other strange behavior exhibited during the incident included ChatGPT apparently randomly mixing English and Spanish words and inventing phrases that resembled gibberish attempts in foreign languages. OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, acknowledged the issue and said it was monitoring the situation, but did not explain what exactly went wrong.
Some technologists have theorized that the issue may be caused by OpenAI causing ChatGPT to be “temperatured” too high. This setting controls the AI’s creativity and concentration level, with higher temperatures resulting in more varied and unpredictable reactions. However, OpenAI claims that the model’s parameters have not been adjusted since November 11th, denying any intentional changes by the company.
