Intensifying New Jersey Governor’s Race
As the New Jersey governor’s race heats up with only a month to go before the election, scrutiny is increasing around Democratic candidate Mikie Sherrill, particularly due to resurfacing past controversies.
Previous reports by Blaze News have highlighted Sherrill’s wealth tripling during her time in Congress, raising suspicions of insider trading. Fresh details now suggest her connection to a fraud scandal that barred her from participating in her graduation ceremony at the U.S. Naval Academy.
Cheryl was implicated in significant cheating that led to the expulsion of 20 classmates for obtaining and sharing copies of electrical engineering examinations back in December 1992. One report attempts to quantify the impact, estimating that over 80% of those taking the test had seen it beforehand. Other students faced punishment for their silence on the issue, Sherrill included.
“Today’s approval by Representative Cheryl, who faced repercussions for her involvement in the largest fraud and honor scandal in U.S. Navy history, is truly striking,” remarked Eric Alpert, campaign manager for her opponent, Jack Ciattarelli.
Cheryl mentioned, “I didn’t report some of my classmates, which is why I didn’t walk at graduation, but I still graduated and was commissioned as a U.S. Navy officer.” She served nearly a decade, achieving notable distinctions during her service.
Recent dynamics show Sherrill and Ciattarelli neck-and-neck in the polls, both drawing 43% approval from voters in a Emerson College Polling/PIX11/The Hill survey conducted from September 22 to 23, reflecting a tightening race as Election Day approaches.
The evolving narrative is likely to keep the spotlight on Sherrill as she navigates this competitive landscape. Despite the challenges, she appears resolute in her message, pushing back against attempts to rehash old controversies from her past in the Navy.
