Cheatle Fails to Answer How Firearm Got to Rooftop, When Last Sweep Occurred

Kimberly Cheatle, head of President Joe Biden’s Secret Service, did not answer questions about whether the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, brought the gun to the roof or whether it was already there before the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Cheatle also did not say when the final search took place ahead of Trump’s July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“Mr. Secretary, your agency is tasked with not failing, yet on Saturday, July 13, your agency spectacularly failed. That failure resulted in the death of Corey Comperatore and the severe injuries of two rally attendees,” said Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.). I got it. During a House Oversight Committee hearing on Monday, U.S. Secret Service Surveillance and the Attempted Assassination of President Donald J. Trump.

Deputies later said it was “incredible that 20-year-old Crooks was able to climb to the roof of a building with a rifle and fire multiple shots before being incapacitated.”

“Was the gun already on the roof or did the gun come up from the roof?” Biggs asked. Cheatle replied, “I don’t have that information at this time.”

The senator then asked Biden’s Secret Service director when the roof was last cleaned before the rally, but Cheatle again dodged the question and was unable to answer.

“We don’t have that information at this time,” she said.

Councillor Biggs then accused Mr Cheatle of “obstruction” and called on him to resign.

“You should have come today prepared to answer us,” he said. “I demand that you resign today. Today.”

At another point in the hearing, a congressman asked Cheatle what the boundaries of an event were, to which Biden’s Secret Service director responded, “We’re still gathering reports. We’re still interviewing individuals.”

Breitbart News reported that Cheatle told Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) that the building where Crooks shot Trump was “outside” the area where security was required for the rally, even though the building was less than 500 feet from the 45th president.

The director of the Secret Service received a subpoena following his failure to prevent an attempted shooting at President Trump on July 13.

Cheatle, who was appointed by Biden in August 2022 and reports to impeached Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, has faced calls for him to resign but said last week he has no plans to step down.

Notably, it was recently reported that top Secret Service officials have refused President Trump’s requests for increased security over the past two years.
