Cheerios Introduces New Resealable Packaging
Cheerios is revamping its classic cereal packaging, aiming to eliminate those pesky rolled-up bags and cereal clips. General Mills has partnered with Ziploc to launch Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal, featuring a resealable bag nestled inside the familiar cereal box.
This innovative design opens partially at the top, creating a convenient pour spout that can be resealed to maintain freshness. It’s a change that follows years of consumer feedback; according to General Mills, they receive countless requests about cereal packaging yearly.
A survey conducted by Suzy in December 2025 indicated that a staggering 90% of cereal consumers take extra measures to keep their breakfast fresh after opening a box, resorting to clips, clothespins, and storage containers.
Emilie Knox, vice president and business unit director for Cheerios, remarked that this new packaging finally addresses an everyday frustration that many have expressed. She emphasized that Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal offers a simple solution to a common problem.
Interestingly, cereal enthusiasts have voiced their thoughts on social media. A Reddit user wondered why cereal brands haven’t adopted Ziploc-style bags sooner, echoing sentiments shared by others who have felt this need for ages. One commenter even said, “Cheerios just solved one of the biggest childhood problems,” upon hearing the news.
The Ziploc PantrySeal differs notably from traditional Ziploc bags, featuring a unique zipper-style closure that allows for an easier pouring experience while minimizing spills. Initially, this new packaging will be available for original Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios, as a choice rather than a complete replacement for the standard bags.
Starting October 27, Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal will be exclusively available through Walmart, with plans for a broader rollout to retailers in the upcoming months.
