George Wendt, best known for his role in “Cheers,” has died, as confirmed by various sources. His family shared that he passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday morning.
A statement from his family described Wendt as a devoted family man and a cherished friend, stating, “He will be missed forever. The family has requested privacy during this time.”
Wendt portrayed Norm Peterson throughout all 275 episodes of the iconic NBC sitcom, earning six consecutive Emmy nominations for his performance. After “Cheers” concluded in 1993, he transitioned to his own show, “The George Wendt Show.”
He also made appearances in films like “Alice in Wonderland,” “Little Rascals,” “Santa Buddy,” and “Airplane II: The Sequel.”
