Chef Robert Irvine offers no-nonsense food tips to eat healthfully at home

Celebrity chef Robert Irvin says it's easy to make healthy decisions at the grocery store.

Irvine shared his thoughts with Fox News Digital about what to buy when buying food at the grocery store. (See the video at the top of this article.)

The Florida-based chef and host of the popular Food Network show “Restaurant: Impossible” offered advice for people trying to eat healthy at home.

“Don't buy processed food. Buy fresh food and cook for yourself,” he said in a video interview.

The chef said he does it every day, even when he's away from his usual environment, such as when he's traveling.

“No matter where I am, I don't use canned stuff. I don't use pre-made dressings,” he said.

Irvine said he understands that most people's excuse is that they don't have time to prepare meals, but he doesn't agree with that idea overall.

“People say, 'I don't have time,' but yes, there is time,” he said.

He advised people to “make your menu on Sunday, shop on Sunday, prepare on Sunday.”

Take your children and grandchildren to the grocery store and choose healthy foods like fresh fruits and vegetables, advises a renowned chef and food expert. (St. Petersburg)

This allows you to have healthy, ready-to-eat meals for four people on the table in less than five minutes throughout the week, he said.

Irvine pointed out that it's important to put healthy things into your body while also making sure your overall health is up to par.

Ms Irvine added: “I feel like we have to be smart about what we put in our bodies.”

She also recommended taking children to the grocery store to involve them in preparing Sunday meals.

“Get ready with your kids on Sunday. A way to get kids involved in food and healthier eating is to have them shop together,” he recommended.

Irvine pointed out that food labels can also tell you how healthy a product actually is.
