Chelsea decisively defeats PSG in the final to claim the FIFA Club World Cup

Chelsea Triumphs in FIFA Club World Cup

Chelsea has added a new title to its achievements, claiming the FIFA Club World Cup champion title.

The team delivered a surprising performance, defeating European champion Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final, held at Metlife Stadium, which attracted an audience of 81,118. The Chelsea supporters, who made up a significant portion of the crowd, erupted in joy as the final whistle blew, and the stadium resonated with their anthem, “Blue is the Colour.”

This victory was unexpected, especially considering PSG’s dominant run during the tournament, including wins against top clubs like Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid. The turning point came from the feet of Cole Palmer, who opened the scoring, followed by a crucial third goal from Joan Pedro, ensuring the game was well in hand before halftime.

Palmer nearly scored early on in the 8th minute but just missed the target. He didn’t let that chance slip away, however. In the 22nd minute, he executed a fantastic goal over PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, placing the ball perfectly into the corner of the net.

Later, in the 30th minute, Palmer showcased his skills again, receiving a precise pass and finding the back of the net in the same spot as his earlier goal.

Pedro added to the score when Palmer set him up nicely in the box, allowing him to nudge the ball past Donnarumma for Chelsea’s third goal.

When halftime arrived, the Chelsea supporters were already in celebration mode, chanting and reveling in the Metlife Stadium concourse, even as the venue hosted an American-style halftime show.

This match marked the first competitive encounter between Chelsea and PSG since 2016, and before this win, Chelsea had only secured victories twice in their last ten meetings against the French giants.

The Club World Cup was available globally to watch for free on Dazn, which, although it only required a simple email sign-up, also offered premium plans to enhance the viewing experience.

In a heated moment during the match, PSG’s Joan Neves received a red card for pulling Mark Kukurela’s hair, highlighting the tension on the field.

Post-match, a brief scuffle occurred between players, necessitating separation before the trophy presentation.

The tournament concluded on a high note, reflecting FIFA’s expectations, as the lively atmosphere and an impressive guest list, including President Donald Trump, defined the day.

Looking ahead, the focus will shift to the 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the US, Mexico, and Canada, which is approaching quickly, nearly a year away at Metlife Stadium.

One significant takeaway from this final is the challenge posed by heat during matches. High temperatures marked the tournament, and the final was played in the 80s, while earlier games faced even hotter conditions. FIFA President Infantino acknowledged these concerns, citing lessons learned from the recent Olympics in Paris and the importance of considering cooling breaks and stadium design for next year.
