Chennedy Carter shades Caitlin Clark with Angel Reese love in pre-All Star game exchange with teammate

Chennedy Carter won’t be watching Kaitlyn Clark play in Saturday night’s WNBA All-Star Game, but she will be watching another All-Star rookie.

Carter’s comments came in defense of Chicago Sky teammate Angel Reese and a subtle criticism of Clark on X, the day after Clark decided to withdraw from the WNBA’s 3-point contest.

“Watching Barbie and only Barbie #WNBAAllStar,” Carter posted to X, calling Reese by her nickname.

“You were supposed to be here, but I’m going to perform for you today, Cendul!” Reese replied.

The remarks ignited the ongoing rivalry between Reese and Clark, who have been rivals since their days at the University of Iowa and Louisiana State University.

Rees waved the white flag before Saturday’s match, saying he would try to “do it well” as he teams up with Clark to take on the U.S. team.

“That’s what everybody wants to see,” Reese told ESPN on Friday. “I’m looking forward to it, so at least we can all wear our ‘Get Along’ shirts together for one day.”

“So a lot of people are going to come to watch us play, they’re going to come to watch all of us, but there’s a lot of talent on both teams so it’s going to be a good game.”

Carter made headlines this summer after committing an “unbasketball-unlicensed” foul by hip-checking Clark while he was waiting for an inbounds pass.

Carter did not apologize for the foul and refused to answer any questions about the No. 1 draft pick after the game.

Clark, who has made 71 3-pointers this season, third-most in the league, did not play in the WNBA 3-Point Contest, which was won by Alisha Gray.

“I just think I’m going to rest,” Clark said Friday when asked why she was missing the tournament. “I’ve been playing basketball all year. It’s not easy to just go out there and shoot from the rack. It’s something I’ve never done before. I haven’t had much time to practice. I’ve just been focused on helping the team win games.”

“So I’m just enjoying this break and I think there’ll be plenty of opportunities to do that at some point. … You need time off and you need to take time to enjoy the things you want to do.”
