Chennedy Carter tried to fight teammate years before Caitlin Clark hit

Chennedy Carter, who earned herself WNBA villain status by taking down Kaitlyn Clark with a hip check on Saturday, once tried to get into a fight with a teammate.

During a game between Carter’s Atlanta Dream and the Las Vegas Aces in 2021, teammate Courtney Williams approached Carter and told him to “change his attitude.” From thenexthoops.com.

The suggestion led to an argument and Carter sat out the second quarter. The second-year player ended up staying in the locker room for the entire second half.

After the game, Carter, reportedly upset about his playing time and Atlanta’s struggles, approached Williams, but Williams rebuffed him, saying he didn’t want to hear about playing time.

According to the report, Carter then “expressed that he wanted to fight his teammates.”

Williams, now with the Minnesota Lynx, disagreed with those sentiments and removed himself from the scene to prevent a physical confrontation.

Dream then called Carter “Behavior that is detrimental to the team. “

Carter, who was selected fourth overall in the 2020 WNBA Draft, didn’t have a very successful run with the Los Angeles Sparks in her next stop.

According to the Los Angeles Times, she was benched for “poor behavior” and fired after one season.

Carter was described as a “failure” by former Knicks head coach Derek Fisher, who was fired midway through the season.

She will return to the WNBA and Sky after playing in Turkey for the 2023 season and is currently embroiled in a highly publicized controversy.

On an inbounds play, Carter, now with the Chicago Sky, hip-checked Clark, knocking him to the ground and committing a foul that was later upgraded to a Flagrant 1 violation.

After the game, Carter did not answer questions about the hit but denounced Clark a second time on social media.

“… What else does she bring to the table besides her three-point shooting?” Carter wrote in the thread..

Her coach, Teresa Weatherspoon, said afterwards that the foul was “inappropriate.”
