Cher spoke about the challenges she has faced throughout her career while accepting the iHeartRadio Icon Award on Monday night.
Before actress Meryl Streep presented Cher with the award, the 77-year-old took to the stage to perform “Believe.” She attended the performance along with Jennifer Hudson.
“I don’t usually talk about it so I’d like to say this, but I was depressed so many times that you wouldn’t believe it. I quit my record label and couldn’t get a job,” she said while accepting the award with Cher. Told. “I went to Las Vegas, which was then called the Elephant Graveyard, and put on a big show.”
“And they just said, ‘Oh my God, she’s done with it,'” she continued. “But I never gave up on the dream. And then I stand on this stage…I love being on stage. And this is kind of a dream. And when I stand there, the music It flowed, and suddenly it came out of my head.” This voice comes from my body. And people seem to like it. ”

Cher encouraged the audience to never give up on their dreams.
“In my experience, it’s about having a dream and never giving up on it no matter what happens,” Cher said. “Because I know from personal experience that if you have a dream and stick to it, you can have a great life and it will probably come true.”
The musician moved to Los Angeles at the age of 16 and met Salvatore “Sonny” Bono, who would soon become her eventual musical and romantic partner. The two married in 1964 and released her first hit, “I Got You Babe,” in 1985. This song sold her over 3 million copies.

After divorcing Sonny in 1975, Cher released a solo album, “Take Me Home.” She continued her rockier sound with the release of her next popular songs such as “I Found Someone,” “If I Could Turn Back Time,” and “Save Up All Your Tears.” has moved to.
Cher also tried her hand at acting, landing roles in “Silkwood” and “The Mask.” She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for “Moonstruck.”
Most recently, she has appeared in “Burlesque” and “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.”

The “Strong Enough” singer joked about her everlasting career and thanked fans for standing by her on stage at the iHeartRadio Awards.

“I feel very happy and lucky to receive this award,” Cher said. “And I feel lucky to have people who have been with me all these years. Most of you weren’t born, but many of you are.”
