“Curb Your Enthusiasm” star Cheryl Hines hasn't publicly commented about her husband Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s sexting scandal with the younger political reporter, but she's likely furious behind the scenes, a source told Page Six on Friday.
A source close to the couple said Hines was not a wimp at home but rather a “strong-willed person.”
“He's been traveling a lot this year, which may have put the relationship to the test in an unusual way,” the source speculated, referring to Kennedy's fantasy presidential bid that was called off last month.
“I can't imagine she's putting up with this. She's strong-willed. She's not just a housewife at home. She's financially independent and successful.”
News broke on Thursday that Kennedy, 70, and New York magazine reporter Olivia Nuzzi, 31, had been engaged in a digital-only sexting relationship, sending shock waves around Washington, DC.
Hines and Kennedy, 70, married in 2014 and celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary last month.
Nuzzi, who was recently engaged to Politico reporter Ryan Lizza, was placed on leave from the magazine after the infidelity allegations came to light.
“While covering the 2024 campaign, she had a personal relationship with a former interviewee connected to the campaign, which violated the magazine's standards on conflicts of interest and disclosure,” New York magazine said in a statement.
Nuzzi wrote about Kennedy for the magazine in fall 2023. The unlikely pair are believed to have begun sexting early in the new year, sources told The Washington Post.
In her own statement, Nuzzi acknowledged that “some communications between me and a former media subject became personal” earlier this year, but did not name Kennedy. She maintained that the relationship never became physical.
A representative for Mr Kennedy said the defeated presidential candidate had met Ms Nuzzi “only once in her life, at her request, in an interview which resulted in the libelous article”.
But a source told The Post on Friday that the couple “weren't particularly concerned” about keeping their affair a secret.
“There's a reason why New York magazine found out about it,” the source said.
