Cheryl Hines Discusses Challenges of Husband’s Presidential Campaign
Actress Cheryl Hines shared her emotional struggles regarding her husband, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., running for president in 2024 during an appearance on “The Tucker Carlson Show” on Friday.
Kennedy’s campaign began in April 2023, and Hines reflected on how it affected her work on the final season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” She expressed her sadness about the political divide that emerged, disrupting the joy she felt working with her colleagues for many years.
“I don’t want to get emotional. I thought—” Hines paused to collect her thoughts. “It was tough because it made me sad. I’ve been working on this show for a long time, and it’s always been pure joy,” she said. She continued, noting that even the introduction of the vaccine began to overshadow the happiness that once characterized their workplace.
When Carlson inquired if Kennedy’s politics were becoming divisive, Hines agreed. She mentioned feeling bombarded by discussions surrounding the Kennedys and political issues while her colleagues were focused on the show. She still faces this challenge regularly.
For instance, during an October 14 episode of “The View,” the co-hosts spent an entire segment pressing Hines to defend Kennedy’s actions from his time in President Donald Trump’s administration. They questioned her about vaccinations and his views on Trump. Hines defended him vigorously, asserting his support for vaccines amidst the criticism.
Kennedy announced in a speech in August 2024 that he would pause his campaign and support Trump in states where he was not on the ballot. Trump later announced in November that he would nominate Kennedy to head HHS, which the Senate confirmed in February.
