Cheryl Hines Opens Up About Marriage Challenges

Cheryl Hines has shared that her marriage to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has come with its share of struggles. Recently, the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” actress, now 60, talked about how her husband’s political career has impacted her mental and physical well-being.

Hines expressed, “I went through a lot of darkness, and it wasn’t just because of politics.” She reflected on the loss of her nephew last year, which was devastating. “There was a dark time dealing with that loss while this new turmoil continued.”

Transitioning to a New Chapter

After RFK Jr. announced his presidential run in April 2023, Hines quickly found herself concerned about her family’s safety. “I thought it was unacceptable for him not to have Secret Service protection as a candidate,” she revealed. She recounted a disturbing incident where someone showed up at one of his rallies with a loaded gun.

Just three days after an assassination attempt on President Trump in July, Hines developed hives and ended up in the hospital after meeting with him. “Seeing Trump with a bandage on his ear really struck me; it was a sharp reminder of how quickly everything can change,” she said, underscoring the stress of being married to someone who was campaigning daily.

Hines noted that her stress levels spiked particularly when her husband mentioned the possibility of supporting Trump. “It was all very stressful, and I had to go to the emergency room because my lips started to swell, and I was terrified I’d choke,” she admitted.

While RFK Jr. has faced criticism for his views on vaccines and public health policy, Hines has learned to accept mixed reactions to their marriage. “People constantly ask me why I’m still with him,” she noted, but added that there are both strong supporters and relentless critics.

“I thought it was necessary to express why I love him,” she continued. “This is who he is, and this is who we are together. Sharing my truth helps me feel better because it’s my own narrative.”

Despite the stresses and uncertainties, Hines is focusing on the positive aspects of her life. “I’m learning something new every day, especially about politics—and it’s surprisingly enjoyable,” she said. “Right now, I feel strong and ready, enjoying the people around me.”
