Last weekend, Chet Hanks, son of Tom Hanks, had a confrontation with comedian Eric André that was recorded. Hanks took to Instagram to share his thoughts, expressing his surprise at running into André, who he noted travels with a significant security detail due to feeling uneasy in certain environments. Hanks seemed to reference past tensions, stating that André had previously dissed him in the media after Hanks appeared on his show and, well, kind of stole the spotlight.
During their encounter, Hanks put his hand on André’s shoulder and confronted him, while André responded with a friendly question of “What’s up?” It seemed like there was some miscommunication, as Hanks expressed frustrations that were likely not caught on tape, while André shrugged in response.
At one point, André, still in the presence of his security team, made comments relating to Hanks’ past use of a Jamaican accent, suggesting it was culturally insensitive. Hanks, in a somewhat sarcastic tone, mentioned André being more than just a comedian known for his side-splitting humor, calling him a passionate cultural activist. The whole thing was a bit of a spectacle, to say the least.
The situation came to a close with André walking away while making a comment about Tom Hanks, as Chet laughed with his friends, remarking, “That was a long time coming.” Previously, back in June, Hanks had appeared on “The Eric Andre Show,” where André had made some negative remarks, even claiming Hanks “broke our crew.” He also described Hanks’ antics as dangerous, mentioning an incident where Hanks allegedly stole a motorcycle. It’s clear there’s been tension for a while.
After the original comments from André, Hanks shot back on social media, criticizing him and asserting that he was simply trying to match the bizarre energy typical of guests on André’s show. It’s been quite the back-and-forth.
Fox News Digital has attempted to reach out to André for his take on the recent exchange.
