Chicago Executive Found Dead in Alleged Murder by Husband
A technology executive in Chicago was discovered “crushed” and with a missing leg at the foot of a staircase in a luxury apartment building, allegedly killed by her husband, who is currently in custody on assault charges.
Adam Beckerinck is accused of murdering Caitlin Tracy on October 27, 2024, in a high-rise located in the South Loop area of the city, according to various reports.
Tracy, who was 36, died from “multiple injuries” and after falling from a height of over 20 stories.
Tracy served as the chief human resources officer at Nuso, an AI consulting firm that has since disbanded, and she had lost her leg due to a prior fall.
Beckerinck, aged 47, has a history of domestic violence against a former spouse and was taken into custody on suspicion of falsely reporting Tracy as missing after not having seen her for over a month.
Surveillance footage captured the two together in Beckerinck’s building on October 24, just three days before Tracy’s tragic death.
Exactly one year after her death, prosecutors filed first-degree murder charges against Beckerinck, as reported by court records.
“We will miss Caitlin terribly, like all her friends,” Tracy’s family shared in a statement. “We hope that the events surrounding Caitlin’s final months and the circumstances leading to her murder will come to light, allowing her to finally rest in peace.”
Relatives expressed concerns about changes in Tracy’s behavior after she began her relationship with Beckerinck. Her mother, Monica Tracy, mentioned that the family observed a constant sense of fear in their daughter, prompting them to seek assistance for over a year to help her escape from Beckerinck.
On October 20, Beckerinck received a 93-day jail sentence for domestic violence and contempt of court, and he is currently held at Berrien County Jail in Michigan.
He pleaded no contest to charges relating to incidents of domestic violence that occurred in Tracy’s New Buffalo, Michigan, home in January and August 2024.
In court, Tracy’s family described the abuse she endured, stating that Beckerinck exerted a controlling influence over her, even taking away her phone when she sought help.
In November 2023, Tracy had filed for a protection order against Beckerinck, detailing the traumatic experiences she faced at his hands.
Monica Tracy expressed the family’s ongoing trauma, sharing feelings of hopelessness and grief over their loss, emphasizing the long-term effects of the violence on their lives.
Berrien County Jail Warden Serena R. Herbert mentioned that Beckerinck will serve his sentence at the Michigan State Penitentiary before facing first-degree murder charges.
