Chicago’s radical Democratic mayor, Brandon Johnson, delivered a bizarre speech at the National Association of Black Journalists conference in which he slammed former President Donald Trump and extolled the virtues of presumptive Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.
On Wednesday night, hours after President Trump deftly handled “gotcha” questions from hostile media figures at the NABJ, particularly ABC News’ Rachel Scott, Johnson took to the convention stage to mischaracterize President Trump’s record on racial issues.
“You have the power to literally write our liberation into reality.”
Johnson said Trump, who narrowly escaped death a few weeks ago after a bullet hit him in the head and penetrated his ear, believes “there should be impunity for violence, especially when it is committed against black people.”
Johnson’s reference to “immunity” may have been in reference to a recent Supreme Court decision that found the president of the United States has immunity from liability for most acts of public office, although the case to which that decision pertained had nothing to do with race.
Moreover, Trump has been Young Black Man Violent deaths are shockingly high, especially ChicagoThe city Johnson currently oversees.
“If Chicago doesn’t solve its horrific ‘carnage’ with 228 shootings and 42 murders in 2017 (a 24% increase over 2016), I will send in the Feds!” Trump Tweeted This was just a few days after he took office in 2017.
Johnson ignored ample evidence that Trump is not racist and cited ancient court cases dating back nearly 50 years to support his claim that Trump harbors hostility toward black people.
“What he’s doing is absolutely horrible. He’s been sued by the Department of Justice for denying housing to black people,” Johnson said of Trump.
Johnson correctly points out that Trump and his father were sued in the 1970s for alleged racial discrimination in housing policies. But that lawsuit A settlement was reached Trump’s camp will not admit to wrongdoing.
While misrepresenting Trump’s record on race, Johnson still claimed the former president was “holding an office of lies.”
In contrast, Johnson couldn’t contain his praise for Kamala Harris.
Johnson sometimes sounded like a preacher, insisting that “only an amazing God could create an Indian and a Jamaican in his own image. And a black woman.”
Johnson also argued that with Kamala Harris, Trump has run up against “blackness,” “unconditional love” and a “masterpiece of black womanhood.”
“Then along came a Black woman named Kamala Harris who took on banks and corporations during the housing crisis and paid billions of dollars in settlements so homeowners could experience the true and full expression of the American Dream,” he said. Erupted.
Finally, Johnson, addressing an audience of black journalists, suggested that even after he was in charge of Chicago and almost four years of the Biden-Harris administration, black people were still second-class citizens in a country hopelessly tainted by “racism.”
“You have the power to literally make our liberation a reality,” Johnson cried. “You have the power — to make sure that racism is not the dominant form of governance, but that hopes and aspirations become the reality for people across America.”
