Labor Day Weekend Violence in Chicago

During Labor Day weekend, at least 38 individuals were shot in Chicago, eight of them fatally. This happened in a city led by Democratic officials, highlighting ongoing concerns about violence.

The first reported fatal incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. on Friday, involving a 28-year-old man who was shot after an argument in the 7300 block of South Kedzie Avenue. Then, just a few hours later, at 2 a.m. on Saturday, a 29-year-old man lost his life in the 6500 block of South Laflin Street.

In another disturbing case, Crystal Salter was found shot shortly after midnight on Sunday in a residence on West Jackson Boulevard and succumbed to her injuries at a nearby hospital.

Later that day, a 20-year-old man was shot and killed while sitting in a vehicle in the 300 block of North Lamon Avenue. Another victim, a 26-year-old man, was fatally shot that evening near Kosciuszko Park in Logan Square.

On Labor Day morning, police discovered the body of a 27-year-old woman who had been shot inside a home in the 6300 block of South Vernon Avenue. Later that night, two men were shot and killed during a dispute in a house on the 600 block of West 74th Street.

In a notable non-fatal incident, two boys, aged 14 and 17, were reported to be critically injured from gunfire around 4 p.m. on Labor Day in the 4100 block of South Prairie Avenue.

Data from local sources indicates that, as of now, 294 people have been killed in Chicago this year alone.
