Chicago Alderman Comments on Mass Shooting Incident
A Chicago alderman has seemingly shifted some blame onto an 18-year-old woman following a mass shooting that involved an illegal immigrant.
On Sunday, the Chicago police reported the arrest of Jose Medina-Medina, suspected of killing Sheridan Gorman, a freshman at Loyola University. City Councilwoman Maria Hadden suggested that Gorman might have simply been in the “wrong place at the wrong time.”
“From what I’ve gathered so far, and based on police information and conversations with students who were present, it appears they were just out enjoying themselves—people go to the beach often, right?” Hadden mentioned. She has highlighted her status as the “first black, gay woman elected to the Chicago City Council,” during a recent interview.
“They were at the pier, walking around. The kids were outside, doing typical things neighbors do. It seems like this incident happened at the wrong time and place, leading them to encounter someone with a gun who may have felt threatened,” she added.
Medina-Medina had previously been arrested by Border Patrol agents in 2023 but was released, as mentioned in social media updates on Sunday.
“Sheridan Gorman, just 18 and a student at Loyola University, was shot last Thursday morning in Chicago, a sanctuary city, allegedly by a criminal alien who shouldn’t have been present,” an ICE statement confirmed. “Jose Medina-Medina, a Venezuelan national, was apprehended by Border Patrol in May 2023 and allowed to remain in the U.S. under the current administration. He was released again in June 2023 after a shoplifting arrest in Chicago.”
According to ICE, “Sheridan Gorman’s death was allegedly caused by criminal aliens shielded by the sanctuary policies in the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois. An immigration warrant has been issued for Medina-Medina, and we urge local politicians in Chicago and Illinois to take this seriously.”
