The Chicago Sky fired head coach Teresa Weatherspoon after making explosive statements.
The WNBA franchise announced Thursday night that its head coach will be stepping down after just one season at the helm in Chicago. According to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The official announcement is expected to be made on Friday.
The move came after the Sky missed the playoffs with a 13-27 record.
According to the Sun-Times, problems with Weatherspoon began during the team's exit press conference after the end of the season, when it became clear that there was a rift between the teams.
Several players reportedly also noticed changes in their playing style during the season.
However, some players expressed support for Weatherspoon during the season, with Angel Reese writing that she was “heartbroken”. About X news.
“I am literally speechless at what this woman meant to me at such a pivotal time in my life,” Reese wrote. “She was the only person who believed in me. The only person who believed in me. Many people knew what it was like to be a black woman in sports when no one believed in her. People don't know. It's been a lot of work. Through all the crazy situations we've been through this year and when we had our backs against the wall, you always believed.”
The Sky dealt with a number of injuries during this season, including an early season-ending injury to Reese, and played just two games with a fully healthy lineup.

It is unclear who will replace Weatherspoon as the Sky's next head coach.
“You're the reason I came to Chicago. You've been an unsung hero in my life,” Reese continued. “We built a relationship that will last forever in a short period of time. I never ask God why he brings people into my life and takes them away from me when I need them.” Not to question it, but I've always believed that everyone has a reason and season in your life, and you were the best reason and season.
“You didn't deserve this, but I can't thank you enough. I love you, Spoon.”
The new coach will be the Sky's fourth since 2021, when they won the league title.
