Kamilla Cardoso will help lead the improved Chicago Sky roster next season
Next month, Cardoso will return to Chicago skies for his second season in the WNBA and will play again along with All-Star Angel Reese, center Elizabeth Williams, forward Michael Onien and veteran guard Rachel Banham.
However, the roster around these few returners has largely changed. Sky has a brand new coaching staff led by Tyler Marsh. They also brought in future Hall of Fame guard Courtney Vanderroot, two-time All-Star security guard Ariel Atkins, forward Rebecca Allen and former Sparks Guard Kier Nurse.
That core should help improve the sky into a more competitive team next season. Last year they finished with a 13-27 record and were two games from the playoffs after dealing with countless injuries. Sky fired head coach Teresa Weatherspoon at the end of the season and chose not to re-sign outstanding security guard Cenne Carter, prioritizing the Atkins acquisition in the offseason in exchange for the third-place pick in the 2025 WNBA draft.
Cardoso will undoubtedly play a key role in the team's success next season. She pursues the incredible seasons abroad and aims to make the leap towards her sophomore season. In her rookie year, former South Carolina standout averaged 9.8 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. That was despite missing time with a shoulder injury early in the season, and despite the lack of a high-scoring playmaker on the roster. With a year of experience under her belt, the best assist leader of the WNBA roster (Vandersloot) ever fits in the even more impactful second year campaign.
