A suspected serial shoplifter told Chicago police he was surprised to learn that employees at the store he ran into in Lincoln Park kept records of his actions.

The newspaper also noted that authorities charged Smith with misdemeanor retail theft in early February after he allegedly tried to steal hundreds of dollars worth of men’s underwear from a Marshall store.
