Chick-fil-A Tests New Chicken & Waffle Sandwiches

To set itself apart in the bustling chicken sandwich arena, Chick-fil-A is rolling out two new chicken and waffle sandwiches in some U.S. cities.

Specifically, the Chicken & Waffle Breakfast Sandwich and the Chicken & Waffle Sandwich will be offered at select locations in Baltimore from December 1 until January 24, or until they run out. Meanwhile, some San Antonio restaurants will also test the breakfast version through January, as long as supplies last.

These sandwiches are essentially described as crispy chicken hugged by warm maple waffles, complemented by a touch of smoked bacon.

Limited-time menu items serve as a testing ground for fast-food chains. If they receive positive feedback and perform well operationally and financially, there’s a good chance they could become a staple across the nation.

Given the current economic situation, the fast-food market is becoming increasingly competitive. Many customers—especially those with lower incomes—are being more cautious due to rising menu prices, which adds pressure on chains to differentiate themselves.

On the other hand, KFC is making its own efforts to stand out by introducing its version of the chicken sandwich, which has sparked a bit of rivalry among major brands. KFC has also seen success with new menu items, like spicy wings and potato wedges.

Recently, they even opened a temporary restaurant called “Sundays” in New York City, allowing fans to enjoy their chicken sandwich. This was a cheeky nod to Chick-fil-A, which famously remains closed on Sundays.

While some chains like McDonald’s and IHOP emphasize affordable dining options, others are leaning toward innovative menu items to attract more customers.
