Chick-fil-A Acknowledges Security Breach Affecting Customer Accounts
On Wednesday, Chick-fil-A announced that a recent security issue might have compromised personal information linked to a small number of customer loyalty accounts.
The Atlanta-based fast food chain informed that it swiftly acted to secure the impacted accounts and alert customers who could be affected.
“We identified a security incident that may have impacted a limited number of Chick-fil-A One loyalty accounts,” stated a company representative.
They further explained, “After discovering the problem, we took immediate steps to secure and restore accounts. We’re also reaching out directly to all customers who might be affected.”
The spokesperson expressed, “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.” They added that the company remains “committed” to earning customers’ trust.
Potentially affected customers were notified on Monday after the company detected suspicious login activity involving certain Chick-fil-A One accounts, as reported by USA Today.
The notice specified that “unauthorized parties” targeted the website and mobile app between June 17 and June 19.
It seems the attackers utilized account credentials that were obtained from “third-party sources.”
The incident impacted customers across various states, including Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington, DC.
Data that could have been compromised includes names, email addresses, Chick-fil-A One membership and mobile payment numbers, the last four digits of payment cards, and the total amount of Chick-fil-A credit in users’ accounts.
Chick-fil-A mentioned it has reset passwords for the affected accounts, restored loyalty balances, and added benefits to customers’ accounts, as reported by USA Today.
